I live and work in Live Oak, Santa Cruz County, on the unceded ancestral territory of the Awaswas-speaking Uypi Tribe. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band are the descendants of Indigenous peoples of this region, including those taken to the missions of Santa Cruz and San Juan Bautista during Spanish colonization. I acknowledge the ongoing presence, resilience, and stewardship of Indigenous peoples today, and recognize that this land acknowledgment is only one small part of my ongoing learning and responsibility. I hold this acknowledgment alongside my clinical commitment to understanding how history, culture, and systems of power—including colonization and racism—shape lived experience, mental health, and relationships.
